Malawi court order deportation of Indian and Turkish national
The Senior Resident Magistrate’s Court located in Mzuzu has imposed fines and mandated the deportation of an Indian national and a Turkish national after they were found guilty of violations under the Immigration Act.
According to a statement issued by the Department of Immigration and Citizenship Services, Abdul Rashid was convicted for breaching the conditions of his immigration permit, in violation of Section 37(b) in conjunction with Section 37(d) of the Act.
Sabiha Sarikan from Turkey was found guilty of unlawful residence as per Section 21(1) in conjunction with Section 37(d).
The court has ordered each individual to either pay a fine of K25,000 or face six months of imprisonment if they fail to comply.
Additionally, the court has directed their deportation to India and Turkey, respectively.
Both individuals have since settled their fines and are currently detained at Mzuzu Prison while awaiting the completion of the deportation procedures.
“The Department is steadfast in its commitment to upholding immigration laws impartially, and all foreign nationals are required to adhere strictly to the terms of their permits and residency,” states a portion of the announcement.
