“We are addressing the kidnapping incident,”- Malawi Police

The Malawi Police Service (MPS) has stated that it is addressing the reported kidnapping of Crossroads Hotel Managing Director, Sammleer Sacranie, with urgency and seriousness.

This incident allegedly took place at the Crossroads Hotel in Lilongwe.

In a press release issued on Wednesday, the police indicated that investigations commenced immediately following the report made on February 6, 2026.

The statement, which was signed by the MPS Public Relations Officer, Senior Superintendent Lael Chimtembo, noted that detectives are actively following leads and have already identified individuals of interest related to the case.

“MPS wishes to assure the general public that it is treating the reported kidnapping incident with the utmost urgency and seriousness,” part of the statement reads.

He mentioned that the Police are collaborating closely with the victim’s family as investigations progress, emphasizing that all efforts are directed towards ensuring the safe recovery of the victim and bringing the offenders to justice.

The service has also urged members of the public who may possess relevant information to assist with the investigations by contacting the Police Hotline at 0884 733 333 or reporting to the nearest police station.

In the meantime, the police have warned the public against disseminating unverified information on social media, cautioning that such actions could disrupt ongoing investigations and create unnecessary anxiety.

The police further reassured Malawians that updates will be provided as the investigations progress and when it is deemed safe to do so.

This incident has garnered significant public attention, with the police stressing the importance of calm and cooperation as they explore all available leads.
