Heavy rain warning issued in Malawi over Cyclone Gezani
The Department of Climate Change and Meteorological Services has issued a warning of heavy in some parts of Malawi as Cyclone Gezani continues its eastward trajectory and is currently situated deep within Mozambique.
The particular districts are Nkhotakota, Salima, and Nkhata Bay should prepare for heavy rainfall in the next 24 to 36 hours
In a statement released by the Department, it was noted that Tropical Cyclone Gezani will indirectly affect Malawi by increasing the flow of cool and moist southeasterly air masses, thereby reinforcing the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ).
The Department further states that due to the Cyclone’s movement, most regions can anticipate heavy rains, thunderstorms, and powerful damaging winds, which may lead to flash floods in low-lying and flood-prone areas.
