Swine fever kills over a hundred pigs
An outbreak of African swine fever has affected certain areas of Lilongwe District, resulting in the death of over one hundred pigs within a span of two weeks.
Several farmers from the Traditional Authorities of Njewa and Mbwatalika, have reported that the pigs began to perish on 2 February, and additional pigs continue to exhibit symptoms of the illness.
MacFallen Simwela, a farmer from Chitipi, mentioned that he lost 32 pigs just last week.In the meantime, officials are regarding the situation as a potential outbreak.
In a statement released yesterday, the Lilongwe Agricultural Development Division (LADD) indicated that a total of 166 pigs have been reported as either sick or deceased, with 135 confirmed fatalities across nine kraals.
Last month, another incident of African swine fever was documented in Mchinji District, where more than 150 pigs succumbed to the disease.
