Govt completes reports review in Chilima plane crash

The government has announced that it has completed its examination of reports and investigations related to the plane crash in Chikangwa, which resulted in the deaths of the former vice president, the late Saulosi Chilima, along with eight other individuals.

This announcement coincides with the UTM’s ongoing calls for the government to provide funding for a criminal investigation into this tragic event.

Shadreck Namalomba stated that the review has been concluded and that recommendations will be presented to the president shortly.

He further emphasized that the DPP administration is dedicated to achieving closure on this issue, which he characterized as a matter of national significance.

This review is in line with a promise made by President Mutharika during a press briefing in September 2025, where he indicated that the new Minister of Justice would investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash to establish a path forward.

In the meantime, Patricia Kaliati, the UTM leader in parliament, has denounced the cyberbullying and harassment aimed at Mary Chilima, the widow of the late vice president, following her recent Facebook post in remembrance of her husband.
