Rains cause havoc in Mangochi
At least 250 structures in Cape Maclear, Mangochi have been affected by powerful winds, resulting in roofs being torn off and walls collapsing.
Electric poles are strewn across the ground, and power lines have been severed, leaving the impacted region without electricity.
Group Village Headman Chembe says that the fierce winds originated from Lake Malawi and advanced inland, wreaking havoc on homes and businesses.
One of the affected individuals, Linda Chikuni, expressed that she is now without a home after the roof of her residence was entirely blown away.
In a written statement, the spokesperson for the Mangochi District Council, Bishop Witmos, indicated that officials from the Department of Disaster Management Affairs (DoDMA) are currently on-site evaluating the extent of the destruction.
