Mwanza burns: Mob kills suspected murderer
Police in Mwanza district have confirmed the death of 42-year-old Enock Choipa, who was killed by a mob after being suspected of murdering two children who went missing on last month.
The bodies of the children were found on the 14th and 15th of this month.
In a statement regarding the incident, Mwanza Police spokesperson Hope Kasakula condemned the actions of certain members of the public who took the law into their own hands, emphasizing that such behavior not only destroys property but can also result in the loss of innocent lives.
Kasakula further stated that mob justice hinders police investigations, as it obstructs efforts to collect sufficient evidence and apprehend the actual perpetrators of crimes.
In a separate declaration, Boxten Kudziwe, a human rights defender in Mwanza district, also vehemently condemned the act of taking the law into one’s own hands, asserting that this practice must cease.
Kudziwe remarked that according to the laws of the country, no individual is deemed guilty until they have been tried and convicted by a competent court of law.
