FAM probing potential ticket money theft on Castel final
The Football Association of Malawi (FAM) has commenced an internal review following the gross revenue of 97 million Kwacha generated from the Castel Challenge Cup Final match for the 2025-2026 season, which took place on Saturday at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe.
The match featured Goshen City Dedza Dynamos FC competing against FCB Nyasa Big Bullets FC and attracted a significant audience, leading FAM to initiate the review.
Mayamiko Kafwamba, the marketing manager for FAM, highlighted counterfeit tickets and unauthorized access to the stadium as primary issues of concern.
“We anticipate completing the collection of all match reports from stakeholders by Wednesday, and a detailed public statement will be released next week following a comprehensive review,” Kafwamba stated.
Sports analyst Pally Chinyama commended FAM for this initiative, raising questions about the match’s revenue in relation to the attendance figures.
“The stadium was at full capacity, and I observed individuals selling tickets outside the entrance. This is a commendable action by FAM,” Chinyama remarked.
From the total gross revenue of 97 million Kwacha, the net revenue amounted to 65.2 million Kwacha, with expenses reaching 31.7 million Kwacha.
Consequently, both finalists, Dedza Dynamos FC and FCB Nyasa Big Bullets FC, received 16.3 million Kwacha each, while the ground owners, the Ministry of Youth, Sports, and Culture, also obtained 16.3 million Kwacha, and FAM earned 13 million Kwacha from the match.
FCB Nyasa Big Bullets FC claimed victory, defeating Dedza Dynamos FC with a score of 2-1.
