Hyena kills teenage girl

A 15-year-old girl named Dayna Sato has been killed while two others have sustained serious injuries following a brutal attack by a hyena when they were picking firewood in Zubayumo Makamo area of Mzimba District.

As reported by an eyewitness, Bonface Jere, the victim and her two companions had gone to gather firewood at Solola Hill on Tuesday morning when they encountered the hyena, which began to chase them, prompting her friends to flee and notify nearby residents.

“When the community members hurried to the scene in an attempt to rescue her, the hyena also attacked Brave Makamo before lunging at another individual, Lingston Nyangulu, who suffered injuries to his leg,” Jere stated.

The deceased was a resident of Mthuli Malaskeka Village, located under the jurisdiction of Traditional Authority M’mbelwa in Mzimba District.

Authorities have not yet provided any comments regarding the incident.
