Andrew Mpesi ARRESTED

Police have arrested Andrew Mpesi, Chief Elections Officer of the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC), in Lilongwe.

His attorney, Chrispine Ndalama, has stated that Mpesi has been transferred to Lingadzi Police Station from the national police headquarters.

Ndalama indicated that the arrest is related to allegations that Mpesi misused his position when an individual not employed by MEC was reportedly discovered operating Mpesi’s official vehicle.

The police have not yet provided any comments regarding this situation.
