Malawi parliament passes MK10 Trillion budget

Parliament has approved the National Budget for 2026/27, allocating a total of K10.978 trillion for government spending after extensive scrutiny, debate, and a vote-by-vote examination of the allocations.

This approval comes after the Committee of Supply process, during which Members of Parliament reviewed and accepted various votes pertaining to ministries, departments, and agencies.

The budget encompasses crucial sectors such as agriculture, health, education, infrastructure, and governance institutions.

Notable allocations include K971.3 billion for the Ministry of Agriculture, K558.07 billion for the Ministry of Health and Sanitation, K316.6 billion for the Ministry of Education, and K447.1 billion for the Roads Fund Administration.

Security agencies, including the Malawi Defence Force and the Malawi Police Service, also received substantial funding, in addition to oversight bodies like the Anti-Corruption Bureau and the National Assembly.
