Nigerian arrested for fraud in Malawi
A Nigerian entrepreneur, Collins Iheanacho Bernard, has been apprehended at Kamuzu International Airport (KIA) for allegedly trying to externalize $2800.
As stated by Sapulain Chitonde, the Public Relations Officer for KIA Police, Bernard was intercepted during a routine inspection in the Forward Lounge.In his statement, Chitonde mentioned that Bernard denied possessing foreign currency but was discovered with $2800 concealed in his passport and pockets.Bernard, hailing from Lagos, Nigeria, asserted that the money was given to him by a friend without any accompanying documentation.He has since been charged with the possession of foreign currency without the necessary permits and attempting to externalize it, in violation of the Exchange Control Act.
