Nyamilandu promises standards in SKC plane crash probe
Members of a specialized parliamentary committee established to probe the crash of a Malawi Defence Force aircraft, which resulted in the deaths of former Vice-President Saulos Klaus Chilima and eight others, have chosen Walter Nyamilandu as their chairperson.
The military aircraft tragically crashed on 10 June 2024 in Nthungwa, located within the Chikangawa Forest.
The formation of the committee was announced last week by the Speaker of Parliament, Sameer Suleman, and it comprises lawmakers from various political parties.
The committee members include Gilbert Khonyongwa, Chipalamoto Nkhwazi, Dumisani Lindani, and James Mpunga from the Democratic Progressive Party; Mphatso Boti Phiri, Joshua Malango, and George Jivason Kadzipatike from the Malawi Congress Party (MCP); and Ishmael Mkumba from the United Democratic Front.
Additionally, the committee features Felix Njawala from the UTM Party, Beatrice Mwale from the People’s Party, and independent legislators Savel Kafwafwa, Nyamilandu, and Dyless Moses Bengo.
The committee is tasked with investigating the factors leading to the crash and will present its findings to Parliament.
Nyamilandu has since promised to lead a professional team.
