Professor Liomba dies

Professor George Liomba, one of the leading experts in histopathology and the pioneer of anatomical pathology, has died.
He was the first chairman of the National Aids Commission in the country.
Professor Liomba was a pioneer in the study of infectious diseases in the country before becoming Professor of Pathology at the University of Malawi.
He also headed the Malawi Blood Transfusion Service (MBTS), in addition to working as an anatomist at Kamuzu Central Hospital.
A family member, Mike Liomba, said a memorial service would be held at the late Mkondezi’s home village in NkhataBay, where his body will be laid to rest on Sunday.
