All on camera: Mera wants all filling stations to have CCTV cameras

The Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority (MERA) has ordered all fuel retailers to install Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) systems by September 30, 2025.

MERA’s Executive Officer, Henry Kachaje, announced the directive, citing the need to strengthen oversight, enhance consumer protection, and ensure transparency in fuel transactions.

Kachaje warned that non-compliant service stations will be shut down.

The move aims to address concerns over fuel hoarding, malpractice, and security lapses.

CCTV installation will provide evidence in disputes and deter malpractice.

MERA will conduct nationwide inspections to enforce compliance.
