Chakwera Calls for Youth Involvement in Building a Self-Reliant Malawi

President Lazarus Chakwera, who is also the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) Presidential candidate, has called for increased youth participation in various roles, emphasising that this is essential for developing a self-reliant Malawi.
Speaking during the presentation of the national youth manifesto on Monday at Kamuzu Palace in Lilongwe, Chakwera stated that young people contribute significantly through innovation, yet they receive less recognition.
“As government, we are committed to continuing collaboration and engagement with youths to ensure shared ideas and aspirations, so we can transform Malawi together, aligning with Vision 2063,” he added.
Chakwera therefore urged youths to maintain regular dialogue with him, stating that it enhances transparency and accountability among the people.
In her remarks, National Coordinator of the Youth Decide Campaign, Commissioner Mwandila Theu, expressed gratitude to the government for making progress in empowering youths across the country.
She pointed out increases in access to loans and grants for students, as well as improved employment rates among young people.
Executive Director of the National Youth Council of Malawi, Rex Chapota, thanked the president for demonstrating significant milestones related to youth issues and for enabling young people to engage directly with him.
The national youth manifesto was launched on 25 June during the national youth summit in Lilongwe.
The MCP launched its manifesto and campaign on Saturday in Lilongwe, with one of its key promises being the inclusion of young leaders in the cabinet, as youths are considered not just the future, but the present.
The manifesto also commits to financial inclusion for youths and women through a dedicated Youth and Women Bank.
