Girlfriend killed by boyfriend for stealing ‘his money’

Malawi Police officers in Chiradzulu district have arrested 32-year-old Bright Kanyerere for allegedly murdering his 31-year-old girlfriend, Maria Kandau.

The incident occurred following a dispute over stolen money.

According to police reports, the couple had been drinking together at Musowa Bar on July 19.

The next morning, a friend found Kandau’s lifeless body in her room.

Kanyerere claimed she was sleeping, but the friend forced the door open and discovered the body, a statement Malawi Data has seen reads.

During interrogation, Kanyerere confessed to the crime, stating he acted in anger after suspecting Kandau of stealing his money.

He is expected to face murder charges in court.
