The last punch: Malawian boxing legend Chitenje dies

Malawi’s renowned boxer, Ben Chitenje, has died at the age of 81, at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital in Blantyre.
His son, Mike Chitenje, attributed his death to diabetes and high blood pressure complications.
Chitenje was a celebrated boxer who later founded Mulanje Last Boxing Promotions.
The Malawi Professional Boxing Control Board (MPBCB) President, Lonzoe Zimba, praised Chitenje’s pivotal role in establishing the country’s first professional boxing body.
Funeral arrangements will be announced later.
