South African tourist still missing in Malawi

A massive search operation is underway for 72-year-old Gerhardus Albertus Janse van Rensburg, who went missing in Nyika National Park on July 17, 2025.

Van Rensburg was last seen after deviating from the main route with his wife, using Google Maps to navigate the park.

When their vehicle encountered an impassable road, he exited to seek directions but failed to return.

The search operation, now in its seventh day, involves multiple organizations, including the Ministry of Tourism, Malawi Police Service, and local communities.

Malawi Data understands that aerial searches are being conducted using a helicopter from Mozambique and drones.
