“La Peter”? Study shows Malawians want Mutharika for president, again!

Former president Peter Mutharika is leading the race for the 2025 presidential election, with 43 percent of registered voters supporting him according to a new national survey released today by the Institute of Public Opinion and Research (IPOR).

The survey results, shared with journalists in Lilongwe, show that President Lazarus Chakwera has 26 percent support, while Dalitso Kabambe from UTM has five percent.

Atupele Muluzi and Joyce Banda have two percent and one percent support respectively.The survey was conducted from July 6 to 20 in 27 districts and found that 95 percent of registered voters say they will definitely vote in the September 16 elections.

Mutharika leads!

Professor Michael Chasukwa, head of training and research at IPOR, said during the survey presentation in Lilongwe, “What stands out is Peter Mutharika’s strong support among young voters.Fifty percent of people aged 18 to 35 back him, showing that worries about his age aren’t causing him to lose support among the youth. ”

At least 12 percent of voters are still not sure who they’ll support, while another six percent did not say.
