Winning before elections: Two declared winners in Malawi polls
Two people Lawrence Chaziya and Gideon Masache from Chilobwe, Lilongwe, have been declared winners of their respective parliamentary and local government seats, having been the only candidates to submit nominations under the Malawi Congress Party (MCP).
Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC), chairperson Anabel Mtalimanja, confirmed the developmentd.
Over seven million Malawians are set to cast their votes in the upcoming elections.
Notably, a total of 17 presidential candidates have emerged.

Balaka man arrested for possessing drugs
Police in Phalula, Balaka have arrested a 33-year-old man, Syless Stephano, for allegedly having medical drugs without a valid license.
The suspect was apprehended at the Phombeya Adhoc checkpoint located in Phalula, Balaka District.
The Phalula Criminal Investigations Department (CID) team and General Duties Officers were operating an ad hoc roadblock when they received a tip indicating that the suspect was on his motorcycle traveling from Matope Trading Centre to sell medical drugs at Phalula Trading Centre.
As the suspect arrived at an impromptu roadblock, he was halted and during a search of his laptop bag, officials discovered a variety of medical drugs including Bactrim, Genta, Indocid, contraceptive pills, Amoxicillin, Cipro, Benziceline, Vitamin B, LA, ARV tablets, Aspirin, and several others.
This resulted in the apprehension of the suspect and the confiscation of medical drugs.
Stephano, hails from Tchenga Village in the Traditional Authority of Symon in Neno, and will appear in court shortly to face a charge of possessing medical drugs without a license

Authorities in Masambanjati, Thyolo, have arrested and subsequently bailed a Catholic Priest, Father Daniel Makwiti from Konzalendo Parish of the Dioecese of Chikwawa on allegations of causing the pregnancy of a 16-year-old Standard 7 student at Konzalendo Primary School.
