Man rapes girl as ritual to recover a stolen phone

Police in Malawi capital Lilongwe have arrested 30-year-old Norman Kambanje from Thyolo for allegedly defiling a 17-year-old girl.

The suspect reportedly lured the victim with false promises to recover her stolen phone, then defiled her under the guise of a ritual.

Kambanje is in police custody and will be charged with defilement.

Fuel prices rise by 33 percent in Malawi

Malawi’s fuel prices have increased by an average of 33.16%. The figures by the Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority show that petrol now costs K3,499 per litre (up from K2,530) and diesel costs K3,500 per litre (up from K2,734). This change comes after the last revision in November 2023.
