Presidential convoy injures Malawi Police Officer

A police officer has been injured after being hit by a vehicle in President Lazarus Chakwera’s convoy at Nsumbi Market in Monkey Bay.

Eyewitnesses say the officer was attempting to chase goats off the road when a Land Cruiser in the motorcade struck him while swerving to avoid other vehicles.

The officer was immediately taken into an ambulance, but his condition remains unknown as health facilities in Mangochi and Monkey Bay have not confirmed receiving him.

Malawi Police Service spokesperson Peter Kalaya says the service will provide details once available.
