VJ Kenny to spend the nights in prison

The Blantyre Central Magistrate Court has set the next hearing for Friday in the case against acclaimed videographer and social media influencer VJ Ken, who faces serious allegations of child abduction and engaging in sexual relations with a minor.

Known in real life as Kenneth Makina, he appeared in court for the first time today after his arrest by Ndirande Police, who suspect he was unlawfully holding a 15-year-old girl at his residence.

VJ Ken has pleaded not guilty to both charges.

His lawyer, Humphreys Makhalika, requested bail on his behalf, but the court denied the request, citing concerns about potential interference with witnesses and the safety of those involved, given that the accused resides in the same area.

In her ruling, Senior Resident Magistrate Mercy Bonongwe emphasized that granting bail is not an automatic decision.

She noted that due to the serious nature of the charges, bail cannot be granted at this time.

The charges against VJ Ken include child abduction under section 264 and engaging in a relationship with a minor under section 138 of the penal code.
