81 year old woman attempts suicide

Evelesi Chilumpha, an 81-year-old woman from Liwonde village in Blantyre, has survived a harrowing suicide attempt in Zalewa in Neno district.

According to Rebecca Msoliza, police publicist for Neno, Chilumpha threw herself into the Shire river near Zalewa Roadblock.

Fortunately, a man witnessed the incident and quickly came to her rescue, pulling her to safety.

Chilumpha is currently receiving counseling sessions, during which she opened up about the troubles she’s been facing with her grandchildren, who reportedly keep stealing from her.

Chilumpha lives with one of her granddaughters in Liwonde village, TA Makata, Blantyre.
