Umodzi Party speaks against FISP shortcomings
Umodzi Party President Thomas Kaumba has expressed grave concern over the Farm Subsidy Input Program’s failure, accusing local authorities of being corrupt.
According to Kaumba, it is disappointing to see chiefs sharing 50kg bags of fertilizer to multiple households, indicating the program isn’t reaching many beneficiaries.
“The plain truth is that DPP has fallen short to design a robust farm subsidy program that would have made Malawi a food basket,” Kaumba said.
He’s urging the Ministry of Agriculture and Water Development to assess the program’s impact and questioning President Peter Mutharika’s absence in South Africa.
“Malawians who pay his salary are entitled to know the truth of the matter from government.”Kaumba added.
“At this critical moment, Mutharika should be here, addressing outstanding problems. We ask President Mutharika to immediately return to Malawi and perform his presidential duties.”
