Mama Kadzamira fights on land wrangle
Cecilia Tamanda Kadzamira, former President Hastings Kamuzu Banda’s official hostess, has secured a High Court order halting her eviction from Tichitenje Farm in Mchinji.
The order, issued by Justice Semion Mdeza on January 8, 2026, temporarily stops the enforcement of a judgment that ruled against Kadzamira in a long-standing land dispute with the family of late politician Elias Kaphwiti Banda .
The dispute centers on the ownership of Tichitenje Farm, with Kadzamira claiming it was gifted to her by Kamuzu Banda.
However, the High Court previously ruled that the lease held by Kaphwiti Banda’s estate was registered earlier and had never been lawfully cancelled, surrendered, or forfeited.
Kadzamira’s lawyers, Soko & Company, filed an appeal, and the court has now granted a stay of execution pending the determination of the appeal .
The case has sparked debate, with some arguing that the court’s decision prioritizes technicalities over the reality of Kadzamira’s 47-year peaceful possession of the farm.
