Clearing the rubble: Malawi sex workers to remove younger girls from trade
The Female Sex Workers Association (FSWA) has escalated its initiatives to prevent underage girls from participating in sex work in Malawi.
Lucy Majawa, a member of the association, stated that the purpose of this initiative is to safeguard minors from exploitation and to ensure they are not subjected to abuse.
Majawa further mentioned that the organization is open to collaborating with the government and other stakeholders to assist in keeping underage girls in educational institutions instead of on the streets involved in sex work.
She expressed these views during a stakeholder briefing convened by the Chief Kachindamoto Fund.
In Malawi, sex work is considered a criminal offense, as it is associated with various legal and social issues that undermine public morality and safety.
