The warman: Trump rebrands US department
The BBC has seen the text of the executive order, which says: “The name ‘Department of War’ conveys a stronger message of readiness and resolve compared to ‘Department of Defense,’ which emphasizes only defensive capabilities.”
In an effort to “project strength and resolve,” the order authorises the defence secretary, his department and subordinate officials to use the new titles as secondary names.
The order also instructs Hegseth to recommend and include legislative and executive actions to move toward a permanent renaming of the department since Trump cannot formally change the name without congressional approval.

Maid of theft: Woman arrested for stealing
Police in Lilongwe have arrested a maid suspected of stealing children’s clothes and other items from a house where she worked.
Lilongwe Deputy Police Spokesperson Khumbo Sanyiwa said the woman, identified as Yuniki Mwachande, 34, from Chinsapo, was employed as a housemaid in a house in Area 3, and on August 3, her employer left her to do the laundry.
But instead of cleaning the house and doing the laundry, as her employer had said, the woman is suspected of stealing children’s clothes, groceries and other items and running away.
“The employer reported the matter to the police and we have been searching for the woman, who has now been arrested. So far, we have recovered some of the stolen items after searching the woman’s house. The woman is expected to appear in court soon to answer the theft charge,” said Sanyiwa.
