Court orders Kumwenda’s return to ESCOM

The High Court in Blantyre has stopped the Government from transferring Kamwamba Kumwenda, from the Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi where he served as Chief Executive Officer to the Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences as a lecturer.

Kumwenda was informed of his secondment as a lecturer at MUBAS on November 5, 2025, which would’ve meant leaving his ESCOM position.

He challenged the move, citing unlawfulness, and applied for judicial review.

The court granted him leave and issued an injunction, temporarily blocking the transfer.

Now, Kumwenda remains ESCOM CEO until the review is complete.
