Nine people in hospital after eating poisoned maize

Nine people from two families have been hospitalized in Mulanje district after eating suspected poisonous maize bran, Malawi Data has learnt.

The victims, aged who are 4-53, experienced abdominal pains, vomiting, and diarrhoea after consuming the food obtained from another farmer.

Mulanje District Health spokesperson Peter Nason says the people are being treated at Thuchila Health Centre and have sent samples for lab analysis in Lilongwe.

The affected families are from Chiuta Village, Traditional Authority Mkanda.
