“Malawi media under threat”
The Media Institute of Southern Africa (MISA) Malawi has raised alarms regarding the apparent inability to hold accountable those who commit acts of violence against journalists in the nation.
Felix Washon, the Chairperson of MISA Malawi, states that journalists in Malawi continue to endure physical attacks, online harassment, bullying, arbitrary arrests, detentions, and threats, yet those who perpetrate these acts are seldom held accountable.
In addition, Moses Kaufa, the Executive Director of the Media Council of Malawi, has urged for ongoing dedication from the institutions responsible for preventing violence against journalists and ensuring that offenders face justice.
These concerns arise as Malawi observes the International Day to End Impunity for Crimes Against Journalists alongside the global community.
