Govt addresses interns payment glitch
The Ministry of Labour, Skills and Innovation has announced that the outstanding stipend arrears for graduates participating in the government internship program, which have accumulated over two months, will be resolved by August this year. This delay has been attributed to issues with the payroll system.
In a statement, Nwazi Mnthambala, the Secretary for Labour, Skills and Innovation, explained that some interns did not receive their salaries for March and April due to a recent effort to update the database of the graduate internship program.
This update was initiated after it was observed that certain interns were not attending work.
“This process resulted in some interns not receiving stipends for the months of March and April, 2026,” the statement indicates.
Additionally, the ministry has recognized that human error during the data entry into the payment system may also have contributed to the delays.
