Agriculture fair opens this Thursday
The 22nd National Agriculture Fair is set to open in Blantyre this Thursday, with organisers seeking to promote innovation, value addition and stronger market linkages in the agriculture sector.
The three day event, organised by the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Water Development in partnership with the Malawi Confederation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry (MCCCI), will run from August 27 to 29 at the Chichiri Trade Fair Grounds.
Agriculture Minister Roza Mbilizi is expected to officially open the fair, which is being held under the theme, “Transforming Agriculture through Innovation, Value Addition, and Market Linkages.”
The theme comes at a time when Malawi is seeking to modernise agriculture and increase the economic value of agricultural products through processing and improved access to markets.
According to the ministry, the fair will bring together farmers, agro-processors, financial institutions, development partners, international buyers and other stakeholders in the agricultural sector.
The event will also provide a platform for exhibitors to showcase agricultural products, technologies and innovations while creating opportunities for business partnerships and investment.
The organisers say the initiative is expected to contribute to the country’s agricultural transformation and broader economic growth.
