Men arrested for putting young boy for sale

Police in Monkey Bay, Mangochi, have arrested Exin Nangwale (21) and Patrick Saphika (20) on allegations of abducting an 11-year-old boy and attempting to sell him in Ntemwende Village, under Senior Chief Nankumba in the district.

Kondwani James, the public relations officer for Monkey Bay Police, stated that the suspects were taken into custody yesterday after a well-wisher provided a tip-off, indicating that the two had concealed the boy and were seeking a potential buyer.

As per police reports, the suspects deceived the boy by promising him money before leading him to the location where he was ultimately rescued.

James also mentioned that the police recovered knives that the suspects were reportedly carrying at the time of their arrest.

He added that the two have been charged with pledging a child as security, in violation of Section 82(a) of the Child Care, Protection and Justice Act, which prohibits any person from selling a child or using a child as collateral for credit.
