Joy Media workers seeking pay 5 years after closure

Former employees of Joy Radio and Television have demanded payment of their outstanding salary arrears and gratuity from the station’s owners, former President Bakili Muluzi and Atupele Muluzi.

In a letter dated October 7, 2026, the workers said they have not received any formal communication regarding their employment since the radio station closed in 2021 over an outstanding balance with the Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA).

The former employees said some of them are owed more than 18 months in salary arrears, while others have died before receiving what they were owed, leaving their families in difficult circumstances.

Additionally, they have also asked the Muluzi family and management to provide a clear roadmap on when the outstanding payments will be settled.
