AKA murder case rages on
The seven men accused of murdering South African rapper Kiernan “AKA” Forbes and his friend, businessman Tebello “Tibz” Motsoane, are expected to return to the Durban High Court today on Wednesday as the case continues.
AKA, whose real name was Kiernan Jarryd Forbes, was a renowned South African hip-hop artist, record producer and businessman.
He and Motsoane were shot dead on February 10, 2023, outside a restaurant on Florida Road in Durban.
All seven men are accused of conspiracy to commit murder, two counts of murder, as well as firearms.
On their previous appearance on Tuesday, Durban High Court granted an application for the separation of trials brought by accused number one, Lindokuhle Mkhwanazi, on behalf of himself and five other accused.
The accused asked that Siyanda Myeza, who is accused number three, be tried separately on counts 12 to 17.
The additional charges against Myeza relate to the 2022 murder of a taxi owner in Mayville, two counts of attempted murder, conspiracy to commit murder and the theft of a motor vehicle.
Meanwhile, it remains unclear whether the State will appeal Judge Nomfundo Simpunzi’s ruling on the separation of the trials.
