PAC cracks whip on Blantyre Water Board impasse
The Public Appointments Committee (PAC) of Parliament has directed the Blantyre Water Board (BWB) Board of Directors to prepare a detailed presentation after expressing dissatisfaction with their responses on the institution’s governance procedures.
The committee summoned the directors to explain the principles and procedures that informed governance decisions at the water utility, including the dismissal of its Chief Executive Officer, Yeremia Chihana.
PAC Chairperson Felix Njawala said the directors had submitted documents to the committee but failed to adequately address all the issues that required clarification.
“We are dissatisfied with the progress of the discussion. Although the Board has submitted documents, its directors have not adequately addressed all the issues we wrote to them, requiring clarification,” Njawala said.
He said the committee had given the directors additional time to prepare a comprehensive presentation addressing the concerns raised during the meeting.
He said the committee would reconvene with the BWB directors after they had prepared the presentation to allow further discussions on the matter.
The BWB delegation was led by Board Chairperson Stanley Chirwa.
