Govt moves to fix Chiweta mess

The Minister of Transport and Public Works, Jappie Mhango, has announced that the government intends to undertake temporary rehabilitation efforts on the M1 road at the Chiweta section in Rumphi to alleviate the difficulties experienced by motorists during their journeys.

Following an inspection of the road’s deteriorated condition today, Mhango attributed the postponement of rehabilitation work completion to budgetary constraints.

He indicated that interim structural improvements are projected to be finished within the forthcoming two weeks, enabling the road to remain accessible throughout the rainy season.

Roads Authority Chief Executive Officer Engineer Joel Longwe similarly acknowledged the road’s current challenges and pledged that maintenance efforts will be implemented to manage the situation effectively, including during periods of heavy rainfall.

Longwe further stated that all problematic sections along the route will receive attention to guarantee secure passage for all road users.
