Chitipa man arrested for carrying fake US Dollars

The Chitipa Police Department has apprehended a 43-year-old individual, Maclean Kayange, a resident of Mthandizi Village under the jurisdiction of Senior Chief Mwaulambya, on suspicion of unlawfully possessing counterfeit United States currency and Tanzanian shillings.

According to Chitipa Police Public Relations Officer Rabson Mkandawire, the apprehension took place on October 24, 2026, at approximately 5 PM at Chitipa Main Market, following information provided by concerned citizens.

Mkandawire further reported that investigative officers conducted a search of the suspect’s belongings and discovered USD 10,600 and 620,000 Tanzanian shillings believed to be fraudulent in nature. He indicated that the suspect will be presented before the court upon finalization of all administrative procedures.
