“No toilets, no classes,’ Mtondo Primary school fails to re-open
Learners at Mtondo Primary School, located under the Traditional Authority Pemba in Salima District, have been unable to return to classes as the rehabilitation of toilets, which were damaged by heavy rains last month, remains incomplete.
The headteacher, Tony Adyenji, stated that the students at Mtondo are still prevented from attending classes due to the state of the toilets, emphasizing that the school cannot function without adequate sanitation facilities for the students.
He mentioned that the school, in partnership with the local community, is actively working on restoring the facilities, with the expectation that regular classes will recommence next Monday.
In the meantime, education officials in the district have reported that other primary schools, such as Simayiwa, Chimweta, and Kachere, which were also closed due to flooding, have since reopened, allowing students to return to their classes.
