Potential kidnapper arrested in Mzuzu
Police in Mzuzu have taken into custody 40-year-old Blessings Ibrahim on charges of abducting a seven-year-old child and extorting k150,000 from the parents.
Ibrahim, a resident of Wasoliwe village under Traditional Authority (T/A) Nkholondiwe in Mangochi, is accused of kidnapping the child on April 26, 2026, at approximately 6 AM in Bwanali village, Ekwendeni.
As per the Northern Region police spokesperson, Cecilia Mfune, the arrest followed a report from the victim’s mother, who received calls from the suspect demanding a ransom of k150,000, which he later increased to k500,000.
Ibrahim was apprehended at the Ekwendeni trading center in Mzimba, and the child was found safe and unharmed.
The police have stated that the suspect will be brought before the court to face charges of child abduction.
