Mutharika supports Flag Week with MK10 Million

President Peter Mutharika has emphasized the need for collective action to support vulnerable communities.

He has urged Malawians to support the 2026 Red Cross Flag Week, saying it is a chance to show humanity.

Speaking at Kamuzu Palace in Lilongwe, Mutharika praised Red Cross volunteers as everyday heroes who provide relief and comfort in crises.

With natural disasters and global uncertainties on the rise, Mutharika says humanitarian services are crucial.

He is also calling on citizens and the private sector to contribute generously to the Flag Week to sustain the organisation’s interventions.

Mutharika led by example, donating K10 million as the first contribution.

Malawi Red Cross Society President Innocent Majiya thanked the government for its support, including restoring subventions and investing in infrastructure like the Disaster Response Operations Centre.
