LL Council hailed for Wakawaka demolition

The Malawi Local Government Association (MALGA) has praised the Lilongwe City Council for bringing down illegal structures at Wakawaka Market.

The association states that unplanned developments pose risks to public safety, health, and the environment.

MALGA’s Executive Director, Hadrod Mkandawire, emphasizes that this action reflects the council’s dedication to upholding urban planning regulations, enhancing public health, and safeguarding citizens.

He points out that unregulated markets in unauthorized locations have long harmed infrastructure, disrupted traffic patterns, and negatively impacted legitimate businesses.

In addition, the local government organization has called on the public and the business sector to adhere to city regulations, refrain from illegal land encroachment, and obtain permission from local authorities prior to constructing any structures.
