Ma Idyaables: Man arrested for feeding people dog meat
Police in Nkhotakota have arrested a 43-year-old individual, Ishmael Ng’ondola, for allegedly selling dog meat to local residents while asserting it was meat from an African Civet, referred to locally as “fungwe”.
Chisomo Chuma, public relations officer for Nkhotakota Police, stated that the suspect was taken into custody following a report made to the Mpondagaga Police Unit yesterday by two complainants, Levison Banda and another individual known only as Fikson.
“The incident took place on May 18, 2026, at Njeza Village within the district. It is alleged that the suspect misled community members by selling them meat that he claimed was sourced from a wild animal that is commonly eaten in certain regions,” Chuma explained.
She noted that community members later grew suspicious and recognized the meat as dog meat.
Chuma further mentioned that during subsequent investigations, police found a dog skin near the suspect’s residence, which bolstered suspicions that the meat sold was indeed from a dog.
The suspect is presently in police custody, awaiting court proceedings on charges related to the sale of harmful or unwholesome food.
Ng’ondola is originally from Phunda Village in the area of Traditional Authority Phonde in Nkhotakota District.
