Five total deaths confirmed of Malawi’s returnees from RSA

The number of Malawians who have died while travelling home from South Africa has risen to five since the government began repatriating citizens who wished to return to Malawi.

A senior official in the Department of Disaster Management Affairs (DODMA), Nelly Kalengamaliro, said four of the deceased are men and one is a woman.

She said the latest victim died in the early hours of 6 July in Mozambique.

Meanwhile, Kalengamaliro added that authorities have identified four of the deceased, while one person has not yet been identified.

According to DODMA, many of those returning are arriving sick and are receiving medical attention upon arrival in Malawi.
