Man dies in a man made mine
In Nsanje, a 39-year-old man named Lucius Laelo has lost his life after a mining pit caved in on him while he was reportedly involved in illegal mining activities.
As stated by Jabulani Ng’oma, the Publicist for the Nsanje Police, the incident occurred at Nyuwani Village within the jurisdiction of Traditional Authority Mbenje.
Ng’oma indicated that Laelo had ventured alone to an unauthorized mining site, where he dug an underground channel that suddenly collapsed, burying him under the earth.
In his statement, Ng’oma mentioned that nearby residents hurried to the location and were able to rescue him, but he was discovered unconscious.
Laelo’s remains were transported to Kalemba Community Hospital, where a clinical officer confirmed his passing.
Additionally, postmortem examinations have determined that the cause of death was suffocation resulting from the collapse.
