Malawian soldier dies in a terrible accident

A Malawi Defence Force soldier identified as Vincent Mwenifumbo has died when an ERF truck he was riding in overturned at Box Hunga, located along the Chikangawa/Jenda stretch of the M1 road, which connects Mzuzu to Lilongwe.

Mzimba Police spokesperson Maria Banda confirmed the occurrence, stating it happened in the early hours of today.

He became trapped beneath bags of rice that fell from the truck and was subsequently declared dead at Mzimba District Hospital.
Banda also mentioned that information regarding the driver is still unclear.

Another passenger, known as Kasonkanji Nkhoma, suffered an injury to his right leg during the accident.

Authorities indicate that the truck driver fled the scene and is currently evading capture as investigations proceed.
