President Mutharika orders change on T/A Masula

President Peter Mutharika has officially dismissed Sefasi Mathews Jonathan Masula from his role as Traditional Authority Masula of Lilongwe District, effective immediately.

In a correspondence directed to Masula, President Mutharika explains that this action is a result of a High Court ruling and the conclusions drawn from various commissions of inquiry, which determined that the succession did not adhere to Maseko Ngoni traditions, where the chieftaincy is traditionally passed down from father to son.

This situation arises from a protracted conflict regarding the Maseko Ngoni chieftaincy that commenced in 2008 following the passing of iNkosi Masula III, the late Lemison Masula.

Sefasi Jonathan Masula, who is a nephew of the deceased chief, took over the leadership despite a ruling from High Court Judge Ivy Kamanga in July 2011, which declared that he was not qualified for the position.

Impi Kandi Padambo, the Secretary General for the Maseko Ngoni Heritage Trust, has expressed their approval of the president’s decision, acknowledging the respect shown for the court’s ruling.
