Money heist: Police recover MK18 Million
Police at Kawale in Lilongwe have announced the recovery of K18.5 million in cash that was allegedly stolen during a break-in at Madina Investment on Saturday night in Mchesi, Lilongwe.
Precious Mavuto Phiri, the Public Relations Officer for Kawale Police, stated that the recovered funds are part of the K23.9 million that was reportedly taken from the shop owned by Pakistani national Kaleen Ullah.
Detectives’ investigations led to the identification of Justin Makwecha, a shop attendant at the establishment, as the primary suspect. Police were able to connect him to the theft after he was seen on closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage.
Phiri further mentioned that, following this lead, officers located Makwecha’s home and executed a search of the property, where they found the cash. However, the suspect was not present during the operation.
Phiri indicated that the investigations are progressing well, with ongoing efforts to apprehend Makwecha and recover the remaining stolen funds.
